bd2 was once again delighted to take part in this year’s Wigan Expo. Over the last 6 years the event has grown from one small lounge in the DW Stadium, to fill all the lounges across 2 floors, then last year it had to move a much bigger space in the Robin Park leisure centre opposite just to meet demand. The open space of the sports hall is very different to the smaller lounges in the DW and it’s fair to say that the organisers made some mistakes last year with the layout but happily rectified them this year with an ‘Ikea’ style snake through the 150 stands.
The space was sold out some time ago so the event managed to retain the vibrant feel of previous years enhanced by so many local businesses in one place. It was great to see so many old faces and there is an overwhelmingly friendly vibe to the day which was kicked off by a series of short presentations by the Council’s ‘big hitters’ – leader Lord Peter Smith, deputy David Molyneux and Chief Executive Donna Hall. Their visibility adds substance and, critically, demonstrates the Council’s support for local business.
