Brief

Tegos UK commissioned bd2 to create an invitation only Customer Event combining company and product updates along with a focus on emerging technologies including AI and how Tegos are harnessing this to enhance their solution for the benefit of customers.

Theme

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, als known as '4IR', refers to the current era of connectivity, advanced analytics, automation, and advanced-manufacturing technology that has been transforming global business for years.

Steam propelled the original Industrial Revolution; electricity powered the second; preliminary automation and machinery engineered the third; and cyberphysical systems - or intelligent computers - are shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

4IR builds on the inventions of the Third Industrial Revolution - or digital revolution - which unfolded from the 1950s and to the early 2000s and brought us computers, other kinds of electronics, the Internet, and much more.

4IR brings these inventions beyond the previous realm of possibility with four foundational types of disruptive technologies that can be applied all along the value chain.

Manchester is the birthplace of the first industrial revolution and the home of 4IR, the fourth industrial revolution.

Concept

We developed a simple brand for the event with a 4IR logo which takes its cues from the Tegos identity and the 'pill' motif Tegos uses as a secondary language. This style informed the development of bespoke letterforms which dovetail and support the Tegos logo above the letter 'I' which acts as a plinth to support it. The colourways are taken from the main Tegos brand.

Venue

We then worked with the client to source a venue that would echo the concept visting a short list of 3 before choosing The Engine Hall at The People's Museum in Manchester which, during the first industrial revolution, housed steam powered pumps that provided water across the city. The space is impressive and provided a great backdrop for the event. We generated a line drawing if the building to use in our collateral.

Awareness Raising

We designed a printed invitation which explained the context of the four industrial revolutions and the importance of Manchester in this history before inviting recipients to Manchester to learn more about emerging technologies at 4IR. The printed invitation was followed up with emailed reminders.

The call to action in the invitation was a QR code which linked to a microsite. The site featured an animated header which told a simple version of the story of the industrial revolution which was powered by coal and steam, moving onto the fourth industrail revolution powered by data, connectivity, the cloud and AI. The site also provided key information on the event's agenda and the location along with a booking form. https://www.tegos-4ir.co.uk/

Display materials

We 'branded up' the space on the day with directional/welcome roll up banners, a series of 4 roll ups from 1IR to 4R and a large banner hung from a walkway facing the entrance which had maximum impact on entry. Presentations re-used some of the brand assets and marketing collateral on the main screen. We printed a simple programme with the agenda and pages for note taking alongwith customised lanyards for attendees.

Merchandise

Attendees all received a branded tote bag containing a branded steel water bottle, branded pen and a couple of gifts from Manchester - a 'bee' mug and a can of the favourite local brew Boddingtons.

Client feedback

"The concept bd2 created for our event provided a great theme that supported the entire day. Everything tied into '4IR - the fourth industrial revolution' and the links back to Manchester as the birthplace of the first industrial revolution, and our base.  The ideas, execution and support from bd2 has been excellent and, most importantly, the feedback from our clients has been incredibly positive. I've no doubt this will be the first of many 4IR events!"
