Finding a job straight from college can be a frustrating task, especially with huge amounts of competition in the market place, it's all about standing out from the crowd. Our latest recruit Alex, studied ICT at Wigan College, and having graduated with an Extended Diploma he was keen to find employment locally, something he could apply his learning to, but at the same time develop his skills further.
At bd2, we're always on the lookout for new skills and talent to enhance our team, and we are particularly keen to support young local talent. We have very close links with Wigan College and a good relationship with Careers Coach, Chris Hammond. We take on placement students throughout the year, across all the services we offer, from design through to development, with the aim of supporting the younger generation trying to enter the industry.
To ensure a higher quality website delivery overall, which in turn generates better results for our clients, testing is an area we have invested heavily in, with two senior in-house testers already in place. We identified the need for a junior support in the testing team and contacted the college. Careers Coach Chris recommended Alex to us, he came in for an interview, we were impressed with his knowledge and ability so decided to offer him a full time position as Junior Tester. Alex tells us,
"Having finished college, I was looking for a job locally but one where I could contribute with my varied skills and develop them. I was attracted to bd2 because it's a digital agency and could provide me with experience and knowledge in the areas I want to work on. Luckily, I was given the chance to join the team as a Junior Tester and have been working on a range of projects as well as shadowing Senior Tester Phil, who is supporting me along the way. The team I’ve been working with have been very supportive and patient, always willing to help and answer my questions."
It has been a month since Alex started at bd2 and it is been extremely rewarding on both sides.
