At bd2, we know how important it is for students to get some experience under their belt to help them take their first steps onto the career ladder. We recently had graphic design student Luke from Wigan College in the studio for a week’s work placement. Mentored by the design team, he was kept busy with client briefs and internal projects.
We asked Luke to tell us about his week at bd2.
“I’ve spent a week at bd2 on work experience to end my first year at Wigan College, studying Graphic Design. The aim was to experience an agency environment and learn new skills that will really help with my course next year.
After the initial introductions and tour of the studios, I was given the task of looking at a logo development brief, particularly how the proposed identity could be applied to various printed and digital assets. I used adobe software to produce the visuals, something I do have experience with, but the project has really helped develop my knowledge and skills in this area. The aim of the project was to experience what goes into a client proposal document and at the end I now have a printed version to take away with me for reference as part of my college project work.
Throughout the week I presented my work to the creative team who gave me constructive feedback on how to improve. I worked closely with Mike, Senior Designer at bd2, he made sure I understood the project and was on hand for any advice I needed along the way. I’ve learnt a lot over the week including working as part of a team, having a client focus as well as what it’s like to work in a studio environment.
I’d like to thank the team at bd2 for welcoming me in to the team for the week, for the experience and for the free lunches every day!”
Bd2 wish Luke the best of luck with the remainder of his course and his future career.
