G2, the world’s leading business software review platform, have undertaken a comprehensive comparison and rating analysis of the six leading .net Content Management Systems - Optimizely, Sitecore, Kentico, Contentful, Progress Sitefinity and Umbraco.

G2 leverages real business user reviews to drive better purchasing decisions. Technology buyers, investors, and analysts use G2 to compare and select the best software based on peer reviews and synthesized social data.

Keeping their ratings unbiased is G2’s top priority so they require the use of a LinkedIn account or verified business email address to validate a G2 user’s identity and employer. Additionally, all reviews are manually checked. Only the opinion of real users and data from public sources factor into G2 ratings.

Umbraco CMS has achieved an impressive rating and stands out favorably against the rest in the full report, which can be found here:

The report offers insights into Umbraco's strengths, features, and the user experiences relative to other leading CMSs. A key finding is that Umbraco CMS boasts the shortest time-frame for return on investment.

We have reinterpreted the data as rankings across the range of G2's criteria, which show Umbraco coming out on top in some key areas such as ease of admin, ease of use and ease of set up as well as customisation, content authoring and SEO:

ROI rankings also put Umbraco in the number one position with an overall average of 15 months, which is half that of Sitecore for example. Quantifying ROI in a non-transactional site can be quite difficult but we also use Umbraco for our ecommerce sites so sales are the clear measure. We've got a recent ecommerce case study which is built on Umbraco, albeit heavily bespoked, which handled transactions of £17.9M in the first year from launch, which is around 30% of the business's overall sales. Given that the development budget was less than six figures, the client achieved ROI well within the first six months, probably within the first quarter.

ROI ranking:

Umbraco also came out on top when it comes to time to the shortest time to go-live, with an average of 4 months but well over half were within the first 3 months. Obviously this varies according to the complexity of the solution and the level of customisation required. It's far to say that most of the sites we're building are of a scale that generally takes a bit longer, with our non-transactional CMS sites taking between 3 to 6 months and ecommerce 6 to 12.

Go-live ranking:

The G2 research clearly points to Umbraco as the leader when it comes to overall user satisfaction, the quickest to achieve ROI and the quickest to go-live. We've been implementing Umbraco for something like 13 or 14 years now, we're gold partners and have taken the strategic decision to specialise in Umbraco exclusively.
